"Julia and Forrest Abell arrived in Worland in the fall of 1915. They left Durham, Missouri, by train, on their way to Washington state. They stopped off in Worland to visit Forrest's aunt and uncle, Abner G. Johnson and his wife, Mildred. They decided to stay here instead of continuing their journey. Forrest farmed and raised sheep for a few years before taking over the operation of a filling station He then worked as an auto mechanic in local garages before opening his own shop which he operated until forced to retire due to poor health. Julia was well known throughout the Big Horn Basin from contacts made while working as a retail clerk in various stores. First at Kaps then at the Golden Rule, Vaughn & Ragsdale, and Anthony's spanning a period of 40 years." - adapted from "A History of Washakie County"
